’99 – Stacey Martin Bafi-Yeboa is living NYC and dancing On Broadway. Seeing a gap in the fashion industry between fashion and comfortable clothing.
’03 - Stacey moves back to Canada to Toronto, Ontario to work on film and television projects. Still seeing a gap in the fashion industry that needs to be filled she purchases her first serger to create a new style. A month after designing her first line a yoga studio asks to carry it, Kania is born.
’04 – A year after playing with design Stacey realizes there truly is a place for KANIA in the industry. Working out of her childhood bedroom each piece is sewed by Stacey while her Dad cuts fabric, Mom sews labels and her Boyfriend (now Husband) folds and does quality control.
’07 – After working on several film commercial and tv projects ( Nike, Leon’s, Milk, Music Man, Honey, Hairspray etc. ) Stacey decides to step back from performing arts and focuses 100% of her time on KANIA.
’09 - The KANIA Flagship store is opened in Ottawa’s Byward market at 145 York St. All KANIA pieces are now designed at this location. KANIA is also being sold in boutiques and tradeshows across North.
’15 – KANIA participates in 2 huge shows this year. Invited to debut a runway show at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, alongside Canada’s best known designer brands, and a KANIA for RBC Bluesfest collaboration, designing a custom merchandise line for the largest blues festival in Canada.
’16 – Aug 2016 makes 13 years! Unbelievable, KANIA has hit a major milestone. The year starts with organization redesign and a clear vision of where we are going. Every success and every mistake has value, as brand we’ve grown. Now stronger than ever we are ready to truly fulfill that gap the reason it all began 13 years ago.
